About Ragoo Rao
I'm Raghavendra Rao, "ragoorao" to friends and people who know me well. I am a retired plantation consultant living happily in Mysore with my wife Rajalakshmi. I got addicted to flora and fauna at a very young age. I was fortunate that what started as a hobby soon became my bread winner. Before long, people in rural India devoid of scientific application to agriculture started calling me the "Plant Doctor". This gave me all the more reason to help them. Mysore is a beautiful city in southern India. Mysore was once the princely capital of what was then called Mysore State(now Karnataka). Often called as a "Pensioner's Paradise", Mysore is every bit the calm, serene university town . Mysore is famous for sandalwood , jasmine (mysooru mallige) , Mysore silk ( a very luxurious, soft and light version of silk) to name a few. A landmark which a traveller to Mysore must never miss is the world famous "Mysore Palace". An architectural marvel in the morning and a splendor of illumination by night. Mysore also has a wonderful zoo with a magnificent menagerie of animals from all over the world. Mysore has always been a city with many prestigious schools and colleges but is now fast becoming home to many multinational as well as local software companies. What's more, it is India's first "Wi-Fi " city . My areas of expertise include Coffee, Silk, Coconut, SugarCane,Rice,Citrus fruits to name a few . A typical project for me starts with a client approaching me with a piece of land that needs to be put to a good use. My work starts by analysing the soil, demographics & topography of the area. Based on the study I come up with a suite of proposals that is presented to the client. Based on the client's needs and requirements a suitable combination is arrived at. From that point on another new journey begins. Preparing the land ; buying quality seeds, manure & equipment ; hiring the farm hands ; plantation ; tending ; training. Eventually (sometimes many years) all comes together like a puzzle. Seeing the once barren land come to life with it's vibrant colours and bountiful crop is a feeling no paycheck can substitute. Ironically it almost always marks the beginning of the end too. It's time to move on to browner(barren) pastures !. |
