# An elephant’s trunk has about forty thousand muscles. More than what the human body has.
# It takes about six months from birth for an elephant calf to learn complete control of it’s trunk.
# Only forty per-cent of what an elephant has eaten is digested. The rest is excreted as dung. This is the reason elephants eat a large volume of food.
# Elephants are so large and powerful, they literally have no predators. Still a lot of newborn elephant calves get killed by the big cats and also the hyenas.
# Elephants are long lived animals, as much as humans. They have similarities with the human race in family structures. Young elephants have to learn a lot of life skills from the older herd members like, finding water sources in the time of droughts, migrating to better grazing fields, learning the basic family-structure hierarchy etc. These are the reason elephant calves stay with the family for a long time, as much as human youngsters live with their family.
# Elephants, like humans, grieve over their dead ones. They touch the dead ones fondly and there is a definite expression of grief.
# Even though it is not very well known why, elephant herds from different locations, congregate near water sources, like rivers and lakes to socialize. Different herds start zeroing on to the common place as though the time and place was pre-determined. This information passing on may be possible, because elephants communicate with each other by sounds which are not audible to the human ear, and these sound waves travel as much as six miles.
# Elephants are very similar in emotions and family bondages like the humans. They are almost people in a different model !
